Swine Flu and Believers

Are you getting the feeling that we are in the eye of the storm?

Even as we all go about our usual daily routines here in the U.S., everything our country stands for is falling apart. You don’t have to be a math genius to figure out that the bail-outs were bank-rupts. If you can’t count the zeros, how will you ever pay it all back? Jobs are disappearing, Nature is going nuts, and the so-called “summer of hell” will soon be upon us.

Now the swine flu dominates the news. This flu WAS engineered. Whether it was released by accident or by intention, only God (and the perpetrator) know. Since borders aren’t being locked down, our government either a) considers this a less than lethal disease or b) is seeking to drastically cut the population.

No matter what the motive and intent were behind the occurence of this flu, it now looms in our environment. So what are believers to do about the flu and the “summer from hell?”

We’re to carry out our calling – Be Believers. God has promised to take care of us. We’re to have faith and trust him.

The 91st Psalm puts it nicely:

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord He is my refuge and dmy fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Surely he shall deliver me with his feathers, and under his wings shall I trust: his truth shall be my shield and buckler.
I shall not be afraid of the terror by night; nor of the arrow that flieth by day; nor of the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor of the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
A thousand shall fall at my side and ten thousand at my right hand, but it shall not come nigh me. Only with my eyes shall I behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because I have made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, my habitation;
There shall be no evil befall me, neither shall any plague come nigh my dwelling.
For he shall give his angels charge over me, to keep my in all my ways.
They shall bear me up in their hands, lest I dash my foot against a stone.
I shall tread upon the lion and the adder: the young lion and dragon shall I trample under foot.
Because I have set my love upon him, therefore will He deliver me. He will set me on high because I have known his name.
I shall call upon Him and He will answer me; He will be with me in time of trouble; He will deliver me and honor me. With long life will He satisfy me and show me salvation.

Keep God first and foremost and he will take care of everything else. Keep your eyes on the skies – we’re to be looking for our Redeemer, not caught up in daily distractions nor watching unbelievers.
